Anaheim White House Restaurant Review:

About chef Bruno Serato & the restaurant: On February 4, 2017, Anaheim White House, an historic 1900s mansion, was destroyed by a fire. If you know chef Bruno Serato, you know that a blaze would not stop him, and that like a phoenix the building would rise again. Well, this is exactly what happened.

Food & Drinks: Proprietor Serato and his longtime chef Eddie Meza revised the menu to feature more artisanal ingredients and traditional pastas, but it still tempers Northern Italian styles with French sensibilities. Start with the hearty and handmade portobello mushroom ravioli or the spicy tuna tartare, which can feed the table. Serato hails from Verona, so one may opt for the savory Verona-style soup with Italian sausage, pasta and cannellini beans. We suggest any of the fresh pastas, such as a classic pasta Bolognese or rigatoni carbonara. For mains, the Mediterranean-style seafood is highlighted by the steamed salmon filet paired with white chocolate mashed potatoes, while meat dishes range from osso buco Milanese and a New York steak to rack of New Zealand lamb and a juicy filet mignon. For a crowd, order the “Jackie O.,” an invention by pastry chef David Lorenzo, who creates fantasy sculptures from caramel and sugar and then surrounds the plate with bite-size cakes, pastries and chocolate-covered strawberries. Serato and his managers and service crew know their wines, so ask for a recommendation from the well-stocked international list.
