Asellina Restaurant Review:

Clubby and on the swank side, this Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the Gansevoort Park Hotel is spacious and cramped at the same time. Similarly, the menu is big as well, offering Italian delights in the form of inventive pastas, subpar pizzas, and hearty meat dishes. Start with the crispy veal-stuffed fried olives, a common antipasto in Italy that rarely makes the jump across the Atlantic, or the juicy fire-roasted meatballs. Pappardelle with wild boar ragù is bolstered by nutmeg, while the saffron strozzapreti are thick and chewy, as they should be. For even heartier fare, the chanterelle-filled tenderloin offers complex strata of flavors and the classic veal Milanese is nicely done sans the usual grease. The wine list is all over the place, and the dozen or so house cocktails stick to the vodka or gin-meets-fruit formula.
