This quirky, reliable, and somewhat pricey Southern-inspired spot in Oakland offers such brunch dishes as custardy pain perdu with a kick of whiskey, smothered in wine-soaked fruit compote. Expect a spicy thrill in lunch items like the po' boyster, a deep-fried oyster po' boy sandwich with jalapeño slaw and rémoulade, or pozole verde with masa chèvre cake served with red cabbage relish. Good, strong coffee is the beverage of choice with most of Jack Stewart's menu (inspired by his Aunt Mary) that also includes biscuits and grits.
