THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Beachwood BBQ Restaurant Review:

Downtown Seal Beach is lucky to have Beachwood BBQ among its many, occasionally bland eateries. Chef Gabe Gordon, who has cooked at some of Southern California's most prestigious restaurants, brings to the place a touch of fine dining sensibility. Once you grab a seat at this tiny, perpetually packed joint, perhaps at the 12-seat bar, order up one of 20-plus handcrafted beers from all over the world, including a few excellent selections made from its own brewery. Then try a down-home appetizer, such as fried pickles and deviled eggs, or go upscale with smoked ahi poke, baked mac 'n' cheese, or wild mushroom stew served atop a bed of blue cheese grits. The salad menu is quite extensive; we like the butter leaf salad with roasted fennel, candied pecans, radish and creamy basil dressing. Pork, beef, chicken, sausage and fish are all smoked for hours. Meaty dry-rub ribs are just the right combination of spicy and smoky. Four barbecue sauces (sweet, spicy, mustard, vinegar) sit on each table for liberal use. Side dishes are standouts, especially the tangy coleslaw, skillet cornbread, and green bean, bacon and onion ragoût. For dessert, consider the Key lime pie or sour cherry chocolate bread pudding.
