Bozu Restaurant Review:

This Williamsburg eatery bills itself as a Japanese tapas lounge. But that would be understating the scope of its offerings. The homey atmosphere, complete with swaths of dark wood and exposed brick walls, is best taken in at the U-shaped bar (instead of a table). Besides sushi, the menu also features a large number of cooked izakaya-style items. Roasted pork belly, called “Pork Betty” here, is melt-in-the-mouth tender, and the seafood-laced miso soup is a meal in itself. Sushi comes with three different cups of soy sauce, each one mixed with varying degrees of wasabi. Standard rolls are good, but go for Bozu’s own creation, “sushi bombs,” standard pieces of sushi but circular-shaped and about the size of a silver dollar. There’s hard-to-find Japanese beer on tap and still more in bottles as well as a good selection of shochu, which is infused with everything from jasmine and kiwi to kumquat and persimmon.
