Cafe Europa Restaurant Review:

Picture a cozy, narrow space with exposed brick walls, fresh flowers, white table linens and colorful china. It could be a café in the heart of an old-world capital. Instead, it's Café Europa, as romantic and European as it gets in these parts. Owners Veronique and Michael Simko, from France and Czechoslovakia, respectively, add to the ambience. Veronique pleasantly and efficiently tends to customers throughout several intimate dining areas, while husband Michael runs the kitchen. Featuring continental Mediterranean fare, primarily from northern Italy and southern France, the menu includes veal, duck, lamb and seafood dishes such as scallops Pernod with a touch of cream and chicken paillard. Preparations are classic, ingredients are always fresh, and the chef’s sauces are especially notable. We recommend the plump, salty clams in a white wine and tomato sauce, flamed with brandy, and a polenta cake with mushrooms in a zingy Gorgonzola sauce. Rack of lamb, an occasional special, delivers a well-prepared rack lightly coated with homemade croutons and Dijon mustard sauce; escargots Provencale never disappoint. Classical music and soft lights will invite lingering to enjoy a vacherin or pear tart. And in keeping with the ambience, think about donning some dressier duds.
