Better than average south-of-the-border fare in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights.
Chavela's Restaurant Review:
This south-of-the-border eatery in Prospect Heights boasts a long bar with colorful tiles while the high ceiling is ornately bedecked with intricate moldings. À la carte items range from tacos, such as chorizo and potato, to quesadillas filled with huitlacoche (corn fungus, or “Mexican truffles”). Platos fuertes, or larger dishes, are worthy too, like the tender half chicken and the tilapia baked in banana leaves for a taste of the southern Mexican seaside. Wash it all down with a potent margarita.
