Credo Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Conversation comes easily at Credo, as nearly every inch of its high walls are covered with quotations from famous artists, politicians, sports figures and other celebrities. Modern elements include sealed concrete floors, a wide-open kitchen and gleaming Carrara bar along with sleek tables from Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek constructed from scrap wood.

Food & Drinks: The menu, fashioned to look like a newspaper, is another conversation starter, with most of its blurbs penned by Mark Twain. The biggest story on the menu, however, is executive chef Gustavo Romero’s hearty, peasant-inspired Italian dishes, such as a rich fonduta of wild mushrooms, Fontina, caramelized onions and shaved black truffle. Deconstructed Caesar salad layers the simple starter’s ingredients and makes each one pop. Another headliner is the succulent short rib ravioli with braising jus. Some entrées still need finessing---simple roast chicken and porcini-crusted salmon are a bit too salty. The creamy panna cotta with seasonal fruit, however, is a refreshing palate cleanser. Wines are Italian and Californian and on Fridays and Saturdays the restaurant offers 30 bottles under $30.
