The cheerful staff makes the artsy local crowd feel at home in a dining room filled with candlelit tables and abstract art. At the busy sushi bar, chefs create impressive platters of sashimi, occasionally apologizing for a less than perfect toro that is nonetheless much better quality than what we're used to consuming at many neighborhood sushi bars. Diners can start with grilled green mussels, tuna sizzling on a hot rock, or spicy shishito peppers. California rolls are on offer, but the grilled sea bass with miso or tender squid sushi layered over a peppery oba leaf are far more interesting. Whimsical saké cocktails draw happy hour crowds into the lounge, and many end up staying for solid tempura, bowls of udon noodles or salmon teriyaki for dinner.
