Farina Pizzeria & Wine Bar Restaurant Review:

Like sibling, like sibling: Farina Pizzeria happily shares much in common with the Artichoke Café. They’re within spitting distance from one another in the Edo District; they’re both named for key ingredients in their repertoires (farina means “flour” in Italian); and they both thrive on the savvy of their owners, whose tastes in both the front and back of the house tend toward the elegantly simple. A mod setting sets the mood for a streamlined menu that focuses on crispy, bubble-crusted pizzas that hew to the Italian tradition of topping restraint: a selection of good cheeses like Caciocavallo and Taleggio, a smattering of fennel sausage, a drizzle of truffle oil. (Roasted green chilies are an option too---we’re still in Duke City, after all.) Besides the pies, there’s a small, smart selection of appetizers---classic pasta e fagioli or a luscious sauté of mixed mushrooms in white wine and shallots, for instance---as well as alternatives like meatballs over whole-wheat spaghetti. True to the enoteca model, meanwhile, all wines come by the well-priced glass as well as the bottle---meaning that you can put a serious dent in the smallish but intriguing rotating selection, from Alto Adige rosé to Sicilian Merlot; but if you prefer beer, the well-edited list mixes local microbrews with European lagers and ales. Top it all off with traditional sweets like coffee granita---essentially Italian ice---or affogato, gelato with an espresso moat.
