Horn of Africa Restaurant Review:

While its booth is still a popular fixture at Saturday Market, Horn of Africa is now also a friendly brick and mortar restaurant in the gleaming Vanport Square complex. East African immigrants Mohamed and Khadija prepare the traditional dishes of their homeland in a menu offering tastes of Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti, plus select Middle Eastern choices. The food is hearty and spicy. Design your own “African family circle platter” with entrées such as chicken in an Ethiopian red pepper sauce, grilled wild salmon marinated in garlic and Zanzibar spices, corn stewed in coconut milk, and roasted goat. Vegetarians and vegans will find many appealing options featuring greens, flax seed, fava beans, lentils, and seasonal (mostly organic) vegetables. Spongy Ethiopian injera bread makes an ideal sponge for the juices and sauces. Hungry bargain-hunters will gravitate to the "all you can eat" lunchtime buffet. Beer and wine are available, but you may prefer the house-made chai or a yogurt-based mango lassi.
