Authentic Turkish cuisine is a surprising and delightful find in a North side neighborhood shopping strip. High-back booths, cloth-covered tables, dark woods, floor-to-ceiling windows and, on most nights, polished service create a sophisticated European feel and an inviting atmosphere. The signature shepherd chopped salad is ample enough to share for a starter. Nightly specials usually feature a lamb or seafood dish, while the menu has such Mediterranean classics as kebabs, stuffed eggplant, feta borek, creamy lentil soup and stuffed grape leaves. A favorite with regulars is the Iskender kebab with its richly-seasoned tomato sauce coating over thin slices of flame-grilled lamb and beef. Wine choices are adequate and professionally presented, as is the traditional strong Turkish coffee that goes so well with house-made layered chocolate nut cake or a square of baklava.
