Hidden in the heart of Claremont Village is this charming little restaurant where a friendly owner and staff offer a choice of four sauces to complement the weekly changing pasta (i.e., one week spaghetti, the next rigatoni). These are typically simple dishes but robustly flavored, in the tradition of Italian cooking. The arrabbiata sauce is sufficiently spicy, in contrast to a silky cream sauce with peas. A simple olive oil-based sauce, liberally spiked with anchovies, is another winner. Other entrées include a robust cioppino, buttery shrimp scampi, or filet mignon with Gorgonzola and a balsamic reduction. To start, the rustic antipasto platter suits the cozy, rustic dining room. For dessert, there’s a respectable tiramisu or torta della nonna. Prices are reasonable --- salad is included with entrées. The wine list is not extensive, but the entire experience is designed to resemble eating at someone's home in Italy, where you enjoy what is available, along with the wine from the backyard vineyards. For those who want to bring their own wine, the corkage fee is modest. There are only 35 seats, so be sure to reserve a table.
