Laurelhurst Market Restaurant Review:

Laurelhurst Market is a butcher shop by day, selling half a dozen kinds of sausage, several varieties of bacon, and other cured and prepared meats, and a formal restaurant by night. The dinner menu riffs off the steakhouse genre with creativity and finesse, while the wide-ranging menu will even satisfy vegetarians. Sit in the boisterous dining room overlooking the busy open kitchen, or find a table on the quieter, fenced-in patio. Marrow bones and steak tartare are choice starters, but other options include grilled eggplant with pickled cauliflower, smoked yogurt and pomegranate seeds. The wedge salad, made with crisp butter lettuce, thick bacon and quality blue cheese, is one of the best in town. Pair your steak (hanger, rib-eye, bavette) with appealing sides such as mac ‘n’ cheese with a potato chip crust, or a red kale salad. Alas, the tasty mussels have left the menu, but have been replaced by clams in the same preparation. The burger with bacon jam, white cheddar and hand-cut fries is a value. A chocolate tart provides an indulgent finish. Drink a potent cocktail crafted with handmade bitters, tonics and infusions (the bourbon with smoky ice is interesting), sip a glass of wine or quaff a microbrew.
