The KISS formula (keep it simple, stupid) is in action here, and it works --- most of the time. The idea of a neighborhood trattoria with a comfortable atmosphere and good food crafted with homemade ingredients inspires the Louise's Trattoria chain. We wouldn't recommend it for anything other than an inexpensive bite on the run. The menu ranges from the Italian classics --- fritto misto, chicken piccata, tagliatelle Bolognese --- with some Cal-Italian twists thrown in, like barbecued chicken pizza and ginger-glazed salmon. Pizzas can also be custom-made and come in three sizes. New York cheesecake, tiramisu and Italian lemon cake are a few of the dessert choices, while wines are generally sourced from large California producers. The prices are reasonable, and the service is usually good.
