Limited-edition burritos with wacky names and festive margaritas are but two reasons this suburban Mad Mex site is always humming. Fajitas join the Cal-Mex menu of dips, wings, wraps, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, entrée salads, sides and desserts. There’s no claim to authenticity, but ingredients are fresh, frequently local and chef-picked. Pepita hummus with toasted flatbread, carnitas burritos and grilled fish tacos reflect the kitchen’s creative bent. To accommodate vegans, burritos can be made with vegan cheese and tofu sour cream. Desserts all feature vanilla ice cream --- alone in a bowl with strawberry sauce or hot fudge, atop a Mexican chocolate brownie, or rolled in a burrito with "Saturday" or "sundae" style toppings. Happy hour, running Monday through Friday, attracts a throng. Crowds celebrate Cinco de Mayo and New Year's Eve each year; this site also hosts special dinners. The no-reservation policy means either go early or go thirsty and progress, while you wait, through numerous craft beers. The fearless and foolish can choose to tackle 22-ounce margaritas.
