Mil Jugos Restaurant Review:

Family-owned restaurant Mil Jugos has been serving up Venezuelan food in downtown Santa Ana since 2003. High ceilings give the cozy room a more spacious feel, and the walls are painted in cheerful yellow and green. Next to the dining area is a lounge with armchairs and a hammock where patrons can relax while waiting for takeout orders. The name Mil Jugos (one thousand juices) comes from the myriad combinations of juice drinks that can be created from the choices of fruits (guava, papaya, pineapple, etc.). Be sure to browse the specialty jugos, such as guanabana and tutti-frutti. Moving on to the food, the most popular specialties are the cachapas (sweet corn Venezuelan pancakes with fillings) and arepas (flatbread-like sandwiches made from corn), both of which are gluten-free. We especially like the chicharrón arepa, which has pork belly incorporated into the dough. On the table you'll find two parsley-based green sauces --- one spicy, the other milder --- that are essential condiments. Rounding out the menu are empanadas, soups, salads and desserts including alfajores (cookie sandwiches filled with dulce de leche and dusted with powdered sugar).
