Mori Sushi Restaurant Review:

Chef Morihiro Onodera, the namesake behind Mori Sushi in West L.A., may no longer be part of the picture but his purist principles are carried on by owner Masanori "Maru" Nagano, who has been with the restaurant since the beginning. Rice paper lanterns glow overhead in this minimalist space with a sushi bar and blonde wood tables. Mori's beautiful hand-crafted plates are also still part of the dining experience. The menu is somewhat limited but the variety of fish is impressive and the wasabi is fresh. However, be prepared for steep prices and petite portions. In addition to an assortment of sushi, there are standard dishes like tuna rolls plus daily specials. Start off with sunomono (cucumber salad) then continue with spicy toro tacos, Santa Barbara sweet shrimp, tempura seafood roll or spicy toro tartare. A small bowl of yuzu jelly may cap off the meal. There's a selection of expensive sakés, such as a bottle of Masumi "Yumedono" ("Mansion of Dreams"), plus the usual beers and Koshihikari Echigo, a lager made with rice.
