With one of San Diego’s most pleasant patios, Mustangs & Burros is a hacienda-style haven for drinks and gourmet bites on a sunny weekend afternoon, or under a blanket of stars any night. The charming eatery has long communal tables and fireside comfortable chairs outside, along with indoor seating and a bar --- and many little nooks for intimate dining. Here, one doesn't want to miss the margaritas or sangría. The brick patio, lit by lanterns, can be a romantic spot for Champagne by the roaring fire and regional, seasonal cuisine. The menu features several innovative small plates highlighting the flavors of Mexico and California. Start with soyrizo and sweet corn empanadas with red pepper aïoli, or the shrimp and scallop ceviche. From the sea, there's coriander-crusted ahi with seaweed chimichurri, curry sauce and vegetables, or crab and shrimp chili rellenos. Meat lovers will enjoy cumin-crusted skirt steak or a hearty rib-eye. Burgers, nachos, chopped salad, pastas and pulled pork mac ‘n’ cheese round out the menu.
