Nica Trattoria Restaurant Review:

On an unassuming side street on the Upper East Side, chef Giuseppe Nicolosi welcomes guests to what is essentially his private dinner party. When you ask him what you should order from the myriad Sicilian-Italian specialties of the evening, the exuberant "Nica" might reply by bringing over a plate that he’s grabbed off another guest’s table. You’ll feel part of a very special evening in a very simple setting where the food is the star and the host is the chef. Try anything he suggests, especially the pastas and the meat dishes, and ignore the “regular” menu, which is nonetheless enticing with filet mignon medallions in a black pepper sauce and linguine with baby clams. Go for the ravioli or gnocchi of the day, both certain to be satisfying, or the moist costoletta di vitello or grilled lamb chops. Be forewarned: No credit cards are accepted and no more than 25 people can dine at one time so the wait can be long on weekends.
