If you plan to visit Oishii’s Chestnut Hill location for lunch or dinner, you may encounter a lengthy wait because this tiny hot-spot only has a handful of seats. It’s also due to the fact that the ex-Nobu maestros who run the place stand behind the counter like Iron Chefs, daring you to dare them to make you something fabulous. Of course, they will win you over with lunch box maki and sashimi specials and seared beef or spicy tuna appetizers. Sushi rolls reign supreme: tuna is exquisitely fatty; geoduck is a textural wonder; and the omakase is justifiably renowned. Beef teriyaki is served with miso soup, salad and a side of rice. Chicken on a skewer is flavorful and juicy, while Japanese crab cakes float down your throat; diamond shrimp --- butterflied and stuffed with hotate hokaiyaki --- are triumphantly sweet and sassy; paper-thin strips of red clam tangle with lemon and seaweed. Complement it all with a hot or iced Japanese green tea. A beer and wine menu is also available. Your best bet may be to take your lunch to go.
