Pepe’s Cafe Restaurant Review:

Opened as an “eating house” in 1909, Pepe’s maintains an original, nondescript façade with a white picket fence hiding the patio bar and dining area, except for the cutout peepholes. In keeping with a tradition of doing things the old-fashioned way, Pepe’s shucks its own oysters, cuts steaks to order, and makes everything it can (granola, biscuits, soups, pies and desserts) from scratch, as well as squeezing all its citrus juices. Local seafood arrives fresh every day, and evening specials include fish served at least four different ways. Load up on breakfast before a day on the water (we like the eggs Benedict), kick back in the shade of the patio for a leisurely lunch of barbecue pulled pork or a fish sandwich, and be sure to arrive for dinner early to leave time for a lime juice margarita or grapefruit juice Greyhound. As much museum inside as restaurant, the dining room is worth a peek. The collectibles and maritime memorabilia reveal but part of the long, salty tale these walls could tell, if they could only speak.
