THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Province Restaurant Review:
The Westin Downtown Phoenix has stepped it up quite a few notches beyond the typical hotel breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch café. Start with the dining room, contemporary and crisp in wood floors, concrete pillars and fuchsia walls. Move to the bar, paneled in wood and brightened with fuchsia leather chairs. Then linger on the patio, a showstopper on its own with up-lit mesquite trees and open rail fencing for street views. But the real draw is the food, embracing South America, with accents of Spain and Portugal. That means wide ranging plates from breakfast tacos stuffed with potato chorizo hash, scrambled eggs, salsa roja and avocado; to croque madame; tapas such as Venezuelan chicken empanadas studded with plantains; and Havana Pork salsa verde over white rice, black beans and plantains. The “Superfood” trend is alive and well here, too, as are vegetarian and gluten-free options. On the perhaps less healthy but fun side, drinks are inventive, like the GingerTeaini of smoked tea gin, honey-ginger simple syrup and orange flower water.
