THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS The Ruby Slipper Cafe Restaurant Review:

This tiny neighborhood joint on a side street in Mid-City, just behind the landmark Mandina's restaurant, is worth finding for such quality morning fare as Gulf shrimp omelets, breakfast sandwiches with peppery sausage made by a nearby local butcher, and plate-size pancakes with fresh fruit. Barbecued shrimp and grits combine Creole with the low country. Lunch has a smattering of specials and sandwiches, but weekend brunch is the main attraction. Baked goods lovers will appreciate the array of fresh biscuits, cupcakes and jars of scones and biscotti. With its raspberry-colored walls and minimalist décor, the place is inviting and airy. On Sundays during football season, the dining room is a rare, kid-friendly, smoke-free haven in which to enjoy a hearty brunch and watch a game with a Bloody Mary or Abita beer. Be prepared to wait for a table on weekends, especially, but once you get in, be good to yourself and order cheesecake-stuffed pancakes (really) and a strong brandy milk punch. Also located downtown at 200 Magazine St., 504-525-9355; 2001 Burgundy St., 504-525-9355; and 1005 Canal St., 504-525-9355.
