THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Straw Restaurant Review:

Straw starts with an unusual conceit---carnival fare designed to return diners to their younger, fun-loving years---and makes it work with a friendly setting and affordable dishes that deliver big flavors made with premium ingredients. The staff breaks down any defenses from the get-go by planting diners at a communal table or in a booth crafted from a teacup lifted from an old tilt-a-whirl amusement ride. Bluegrass plays in the background and the whole place smells like fried dough. The menu is packed with well-conceived comfort foods such as sweet potato tater tots with blackberry barbecue sauce; juicy, free-range, cinnamon-sriracha-flavored Buffalo wings; and truffle oil popcorn. It continues with a broad though more conventional salad section and then a fairly deep selection of hot and cold sandwiches, such as the “bearded lady,” a moist sweet-and-spicy pulled pork sandwich served with a choice of side salad or crispy fries. The desserts, such as the “flying saucer” (peanut butter goo on chocolate slag topped with candied bacon), are rich and extra sweet; best to temper that return to childhood with a touch of maturity by sharing with friends.
