Sushi Kyoto II Restaurant Review:

Located across the street from SMU, the student crowd loves Sushi Kyoto II for saké bombs and sushi late in the evening, while families keep their kids amused with the festive hibachi grill chef earlier in the evening. Décor is minimal but sleek with snapshots of customers lining one wall. But don't let the atmosphere fool you, there's some serious sushi going on here. Chef James Oh, a Kyoto native, has been honing his talents at the sushi bar for almost three decades. Fish is sourced from around the globe and flown in fresh daily so the only hard part is deciding whether you're in the mood for some exquisite toro tuna sashimi or the Kyoto roll made with tuna, salmon and cucumber topped with smelt egg. Hot food also fares well; tempura dishes are consistently light and crispy. Chicken or beef teriyaki prepared to-order from the grill is usually a treat with the right balance of salt and sweet in the marinade. Lunchtime is bento box time and a bargain to boot.
