Sushi Mon Restaurant Review:

In the shadows of the mammoth Beverly Center, this unpretentious little sushi joint might be one of the best-kept secrets in the area. The vibe is contemporary Californian with yellow walls and tiny booths, and the fish is fresh. Although the menu boasts all the typical Cal-Japanese offerings, Sushi Mon really specializes in the creative, especially its sushi rolls. Don't miss the Third Street roll, a unique concoction that is a meal unto itself: a crab roll topped with a steaming, rich scallop-and-mushroom casserole. Other unique rolls include the Lady in Red with spicy tuna, topped with fried crunchy onions; the Rolls Royce with ahi and tomato; and the Godzilla, a roll stuffed with whitefish, avocado, crab and dynamite sauce. Be sure to bring plenty of friends because portions are generous and once you start sampling you'll want to try them all. Lunch specials are a good value and include sushi and sashimi, and bento boxes ranging from black cod to salmon teriyaki and fried beef gyoza. Saké bombs are available for groups.
