THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Teatro Restaurant Review:

Teatro marks a rare attempt by Jamie Mammano --- also of chichi Mistral and Sorellina --- at downscaling. He doesn't exactly succeed, which is to his benefit, at least when it comes to the dining experience. The Theater District space, which sits in a former synagogue, is as dramatic as the name warrants. A chic, dramatic, blue light bathes the domed dining room, playing up the gold leaf on the vaulted ceiling, and the voices of the Bellini-sipping, Eurocentric crowd ricochet off the marble. Meanwhile, there’s much to appreciate on the relatively simple, seasonal and authentic Italian menu. Dive into the “Hot Tub” cocktail made with house-infused pineapple vodka, Chambord and Prosecco before enjoying the antipasto platter for two, the Marsala-glazed veal meatballs atop polenta, or the rich eggplant rollatini with ricotta, tomato and basil. Muscular rigatoni bolognese is a less common gem, or consider the seared scallops with Brussels sprouts, pancetta and apple butter. A "piattini" (small plates) menu is a good value.
