Top Spice Restaurant Review:

This sister venue to the Toco Hills Top Spice offers the same fare as the original. Enter the restaurant and pause a minute to enjoy a glass of wine at the tiny bar and relax in the lounge area before dinner. In a location that has proved fatal to other establishments, Top Spice seems to have a stable handle on the site. The formerly open kitchen now hides behind an attractive shield enclosing the semicircular cooking theater. As at its original operation, the restaurant has both a Thai and a Malaysian chef. Only three dishes are unique to this location; otherwise menus are the same. Open with roti canai, a Malaysian specialty rooted in southeast Indian pancakes (but this version has a curry chicken dipping sauce) or tofu mushroom coconut soup. Then hopscotch through these two exotic cuisines, going from perhaps rendang from Malaysia (beef flavored with a paste of ground onion, lemon grass and chili simmered in coconut curry gravy) to one of our favorite dishes, the Thai catfish basil (spicy deep-fried catfish filets with basil leaves and red curry sauce). Unusual sticky rice with mango is delectable and just sweet enough. While not spectacular, this wine list does offer a few choices appropriate to the cuisine.
