Tournesol Restaurant Review:

A Francophile bastion in Queens’ Long Island City? Oui. French expatriates gather here regularly for a menu and atmosphere filled with the trapping of home. The dimly lit interior is conventionally adorned with the usual decorative prints and photographs. The tables may be set a little too closely together for some diners, but that doesn't matter much to the regulars, who come for the menu comprised of bistro classics. The escargots without shells simmered in a butter garlic sauce, for example, is a favorite, but we found it lacking that all important garlicky punch. The tender braised pork belly, however, delivered on both texture and flavor. The lamb shank, also braised, served with couscous was prepared just the way the dish should be, both tender and hearty; cabbage and cranberries added a welcome sweet-tart note to the dish. The wine list, which is mostly French (but includes some nice new-world picks too), pairs well with the menu.
