Traif Restaurant Review:

It’s hard to imagine a restaurant as creative and feisty as Traif. This smidgeon of a diner tucked behind the Williamsburg Bridge with an inviting glass-roofed patio counters the religious orientation of the neighborhood with a menu heavy on non-kosher meat, pork and bacon. Cocktails are daring, too, with selections such as the Rude Little Pig, a mix of tequila and Cointreau with a bacon rim, and the Boswijck, a potent whiskey sour of sorts, made with cranberry vermouth and angostura bitters. While the menu changes frequently, following farm-to-table trends and seasonality, certain dishes are Traif standbys that should not be skipped. Try the barbecue short rib sliders to start, followed by strawberry-cinnamon glazed baby-back pork ribs to set the carnivorous mood. A salad of red beets, ricotta and yogurt is a nice transition before diving into the super-rich maple-brined pork chop with savoy cabbage, or some roasted bone marrow with white anchovies. The signature bacon donuts are a must. If it’s all been a little too pork-centric for you, you can finish with a light slice of “mom’s” Key lime pie. Reservations are key at this popular Brooklyn restaurant.
