Tribeca Grill Restaurant Review:

Art Deco elegance and first-rate contemporary American cuisine is on offer at this TriBeCa mainstay. The first dining venture of Robert De Niro---with the help of partner Drew Nieporent---the restaurant still maintains the aura of celebrity it cultivated when it opened. The food isn't over-the-top or exciting, but patrons know they'll always get their money's worth of atmosphere. Chef Stephen Lewandowski places the main emphasis on the grill, with some global influences to spice things up. The exterior and main dining area have an authentic TriBeCa look---loading platforms, metal stairs, exposed brick, barbershop tiles, ceiling tiles and other warehouse accoutrements---dressed up with comfortable chairs, booths and a big four-sided Art Deco bar that was salvaged from the legendary Maxwell's Plum. Standout starters include a charcuterie plate bursting with speck, veal and mushroom terrine, and chicken liver mousse; the spice-dusted Gulf shrimp served with citrus fennel salad, prosciutto, and blood orange gastrique; and the braised octopus salad with chickpeas and celery. For a main course, you can't go wrong with the herbed ricotta raviolini with braised artichokes, fava beans and cherry tomatoes; the grilled Long Island duck breast with duck confit, mustard greens, shiitake mushrooms and cashews; or the lavender-scented rack of Colorado lamb with couscous, chorizo and summer squash. The wine offerings include mostly American with lots of French and some Italian bottles, too.
