Victorian Dining Room Restaurant Review:
The romantic Victorian style of the Mendocino Hotel is worth the price of admission. The dining room is graced with beautiful Persian rugs and a massive mahogany bar, and features an intricate stained-glass dome overhead. The menu resembles those at many American steakhouses --- be prepared for large portions. Try the first-rate French onion soup gratinée or the tomato bisque with crème fraîche. For mains, go for the bouillabaisse in a roasted tomato-saffron broth featuring many gems from the nearby sea, or the New York strip with baked potato and peppercorn sauce. The popular prime rib with --- what else --- mashed potatoes is only served Friday and Saturday nights. Desserts include chocolate espresso torte with fresh berries and the Meyer lemon custard cake with vanilla caramel. Local wines round out the offerings.
