Those who remember Vitello's from years past will be in for a surprise when they enter its modern incarnation. Gone are the murals and the mom-and-pop old-world décor, replaced by a sleek, two-story red brick and faux gunmetal dining room. While the menu still features an abundance of standbys, it tempts with new offerings as well. Start with prosciutto-wrapped jumbo shrimp, grilled and served with sriracha aïoli. The branzino filet on a bed of julienned vegetables is also a satisfying option. But if it’s pasta you must have, the sacchettini, little pasta sacks filled with truffles and cheese, bathed in butter and topped with fried sage leaves, is a good choice. End the meal with salted caramel coffee cake. Wine offerings are a balance of Italian and Californian labels.
