Z Sushi Restaurant Review:

A sleek, blonde wood sushi bar is the centerpiece of an incongruously rustic room paneled in knotty pine and enhanced with reproductions of modern Japanese art and bonsai trees. We have been impressed with this surprisingly ambitious project, which offers quality sushi (such as toro) prepared by skilled chefs. Specialty rolls range from crunchy shrimp tempura and fried jalapeño and albacore to spicy langoustine. But Z also boasts California cuisine that can hold its own in some of the region’s better restaurants. Salmon carpaccio is a light starter, but we also like the tuna tartare topped with caviar and sunflower seeds and accented with an avocado-citrus dressing infused with wasabi. Seared pepper-crusted salmon arrives with a cucumber-onion sauce, and sautéed Chilean sea bass offers a radish-ginger sauce. Specialty cocktails include a lychee martini. Refreshing Orion beer is available, too.
