Mercury is a bastion of freshness and style in a neighborhood devoid of charm. Chef Chris Ward has crafted a contemporary menu with little pretension, lots of flavor and even more consistency. Cracklin' chicken with mousseline potatoes and vegetable nage is an innovative yet classic dish. Silky slices of yellowtail tuna sashimi served with fiery hot, fresh jalapeño and a nutty, slightly sweet ponzu sauce makes a diner wish every sushi bar would give up on bright green wasabi paste and go with this combo. Follow that with braised beef taquitos in supple corn tortillas or wild mushroom risotto with white truffle oil and you get the idea behind Ward’s approach: borrow a little from the East, throw in a lot of the West and a healthy dose of the Mediterranean. The Manhattan Room with its lounge and chef’s table offers an alternative to the small main dining room for those seeking entertainment along with their meal.
