| The Mercury is a sophisticated yet casual neighborhood restaurant tucked into an inauspicious strip mall location that attracts well-heeled crowds on almost any night of the week. Make reservations early and be prepared for some genteel clamor. The sleek, dark dining room serves as a comfortable hideaway for the rich and quietly famous. Chef Chris Ward has crafted a contemporary menu with little pretension, lots of flavor and even more consistency. Dinner gets off to a rolling start with crisped foie gras with wild mushroom ragoût and hot, crusty bread. Follow that with Dover sole with artichokes barigoule, roasted tomatoes and brown butter vinaigrette or filet of beef with a potato fritter, grain mustard vegetables and porcini sauce. Plan ahead so you can enjoy the creamy coconut soufflé for dessert. The Manhattan Room, with its lounge and chef’s table, offers an alternative to the small main dining room for those seeking entertainment along with their meal. |
