THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED This modern Nepalese restaurant in the Metro Hotel was formerly Metro Café. Nepalese cuisine combines the flavors of India, China and Tibet, but Metro Kathmandu is heavy on the Indian influence. Lamb vindaloo features tender boneless chunks of lamb cooked in a spicy stew of potato, onion and tomato. Sag paneer is one of the best we’ve had with fresh spinach and tomato blended with creamy homemade cheese. Momos, a Nepalese specialty, are homey and satisfying, especially the chicken version---plump dumplings filled with a juicy mixture of minced chicken, curry, onion, garlic and ginger. Samosas (crispy puffs filled with potatoes and green peas) aren’t a bit greasy and are just spicy enough. Service is warm and the interior is the same. With everything on the menu under $15, Metro Kathmandu is a good choice for diners on a budget who still want topnotch cuisine---you can even dine alfresco on the charming patio.
