MetroVino Restaurant Review: A literal wall of wine is the show-stopper at this vino-centric Pearl District restaurant, which boasts a high-tech Enomatic system for storing open bottles, resulting in a choice of over 90 wines available by the glass. The bar menu features several inventive and oft-changing flights, such as Chardonnay Smackdown and Walla Walla Reds. The menu is equally expansive, and highlights unusual and regional ingredients. Starters may include roasted marrow bones and chicken-fried quail salad. The small plates and happy hour menus offer fine snacks to accompany the wines (a full cocktail list is available as well), and dinner offers well-executed dishes such as a confit of duck leg accompanied by hazelnut romesco, fried potato and grilled pear, and a grilled maple-brined pork chop with Gorgonzola creamed kale. For dessert, there’s a wide selection of artisanal cheese and several sweets, such as chocolate espresso cake or brown sugar-vanilla bean crème brûlée. In warm weather, dine on the protected outdoor patio and enjoy Portland's lively street scene. There's a nice beer list, too. |
