| Behind a bright yellow awning lies yet another Ventura Boulevard trattoria, but this one is not simply a carbon copy of the next one down the block. A palette of mustard and light earth tones set off white linen-clad tables in an inviting, somewhat festive room occupied primarily by neighborhood locals. In addition to the predictable carpaccio and Caesar salad, the menu offers risotto with porcinis and mascarpone cheese, or a homemade daily changing ravioli for interesting alternatives to the more standard compilation of pasta dishes. Main courses include pan-fried sole with cannellini beans, grilled sausages with polenta, and veal cutlets cooked in butter and sage, finished with speck and Fontina. Desserts leave something to be desired, but the wine list is almost all Italian with several little-known varietals at a fair price. |
