Michaels Restaurant Review: Decades ago, Michaels brought USDA Prime beef to a charming Key West neighborhood restaurant and became the steak-lovers destination on the island, with the bonus of numerous fresh, local seafood dishes. Who wouldn’t rather eat a NY strip or a prosciutto-stuffed veal chop in a tropical garden setting in February than at a steakhouse in the cold north? All the classics are present --- beef carpaccio, crab cakes, spinach salad --- with plenty of dishes that locate this dining room specifically in Key West, like pan-seared yellowtail snapper with mango-saffron beurre blanc, and seafood Alfredo. One favorite local specialty may surprise visitors from up North: the fondue selections served only at the bar. Also “warming” the hearts of regular diners is the house dessert, the chocolate volcano. Wiggle your flip-flops under the table because you can, and dig in at this cozy hideaway. |
