THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Jean-Pierre Bosc, deservedly one of Hollywood's most popular restaurateurs, plays host at this fine, authentic French bistro on Beverly Boulevard. The dining room walls are a yellow right out of Van Gogh's Arles period, and they're hung with mirrors, candle sconces and old photos that could be from someone's grandmother's house in Provence. Jars of cornichons and spicy olives are brought to the table along with the bread; they're perfect for nibbling while sipping one of more than a dozen apéritifs offered. Bosc prepares such homey favorites as veal daube, steak frites (you might want to request a side of the béarnaise sauce), fresh sole and a fine bouillabaisse---all at remarkably reasonable prices, especially for a place this chic. Start with a country pâté, genuine salade Lyonnaise or tomato tarte Tatin. A menu of more contemporary dishes accompanies the aforementioned classics. Finish with the solid cheese selection, chocolate pot de crème or pear financier with caramel sauce.
