| Café Mira was in this spot some years ago, and Mike Johnson was in the kitchen. It closed, and other restaurants came and went. Now comes Mira, with Johnson re-creating the menu and overseeing the kitchen, as he does at several other local operations. The slightly upscale, casual crowd seems to have come back as though it were merely a long closing for remodeling. A few items remain from the old days, like a chile-glazed shrimp appetizer, and a tasty option it is. But the menu wanders farther afield, so the greens may wear a dressing flavored with miso, while juicy duck breast rides atop cabbage and leeks. While first courses and entrées may seem alluring, make sure to leave room---plenty of room---for the dessert menu, created by Carolyn Downs, who works with Johnson at Cyrano's as well. Caramel-banana brioche bread pudding is a standout, and the daily specials show considerable imagination. |
