 At this “golden plum” (“mirabelle” in French) of a neighborhood bistro, wines inspire food, and with a selection of over 250 bottles, it's little surprise the dishes are symphonies of flavors. Delicate crab cakes, fried Brie with seasonal chutney, or Asian lobster crisps are surefire ways to get your appetite primed. We think chef David Apthorpe's affordable yet inventive main courses take comfort food to a new level of elegance. Two favorites are the rotisserie roasted duck with fennel-Merlot jus and grilled salmon with a light minestra broth and rouille with a slight kick. Sommelier Patrick Vilim hosts weekly wine dinners, where visiting winemakers offer commentary on select wine and food pairings. For lunch, we prefer the creative and generous greens like the colorful New Mexican chicken salad. Exciting desserts steer even the most devoted dieter astray. Sample the chèvre cheesecake with black cherry compote and you’ll see why.
