THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mister A's Restaurant Review:
This Old Boys bastion is the last restaurant in San Diego to enforce a jackets-after-6 rule. Ties are optional, but most of the older establishment types who come here consider them as essential as one of the bars perfectly poured martinis. This has been one of the citys top restaurants for about four decades---and we mean that literally, too, since Mr. As is on the highest floor of a midtown office building. The views of Balboa Park and much of the rest of the city are unrivaled, and its fun to watch the planes glide past on their approach to the nearby airport. Most of the patrons are perfectly pleased with the Continental cuisine and formal service; we find the steaks and veal dishes well prepared, though not particularly inspired. If the red velvet wallpaper ever were replaced by something more contemporary, San Diego probably would be shaken to its foundations.
