Guests often linger to listen to the piano player in the cozy bar and lounge of this chic establishment before ascending to the candlelit dining room. The self-described cuisine with no ethnic boundaries could have been an international disaster but, in fact, the cooking here is usually both sophisticated and distinctive. Asian, French, Southwestern and other influences successfully blend in such dishes as the Dungeness crab-and-lobster cake with lemon-pepper rouille, Maple Leaf duck with wild mushroom ravioli, and herb-crusted lamb sirloin. The casual dining options include one of the better burgers in San Diego, as well as an excellent spicy eggplant Sumatra with crispy tofu in sweet-hot chili oil.
