At MObar, post-fraternity, pre-million-dollar-salary patrons sink into posh leather booths and consume quality (and high-priced) beverages. There’s a full bar menu, but the drinks maintain the spotlight and command the attention. And why shouldn’t it be so? This is the type of place where someone could uncork a $1,000 bottle of wine without thinking about it. (The wine list is at 500 bottles and growing.) Hotel guests (the bar is housed on the 35th floor inside the Mandarin Oriental) and locals sip seasonal, old-school and modern cocktails like the Bella Pesca made with Champagne, elderflower liqueur, grapefruit and lychee juices in the diminutive, dimly lit bar and the adjacent sprawling lounge, which affords a view of the city. Staff, dressed in stylish outfits befitting the bar's Asian theme, bow to drinkers before taking their order. Given the bar's popularity, as well as the spillover from neighboring restaurant Asiate, first-timers should expect to be patient.
