Mohawk Bend Restaurant Review

: This trendy Echo Park hangout is housed in a century-old former vaudeville theater, combining a quartet of eating/lounge spaces, including a cloistered patio. Locals like the retro ambience and flock here in droves, making for good people-watching. A pub area boasting a long bar serves up quirky, compelling cocktails. Our pick hit is the Kentucky Misfit, with Bowen’s whiskey, fresh lemon juice and house-made apricot chili syrup. Cocktailians may have to defer to beer lovers, however; the restaurant has 72 running taps that are rotated daily. From golden ale with passion fruit to dark coffee stout, there’s loads to explore. The food complements the brew selection well, with a surprising number of vegan dishes. Watermelon salad with cucumber, jícama, radish, pickled fennel and shiso, or seared kale with toasted pepitas and lemon-maple vinaigrette are both good options. Flatbreads, fancy pizzas (vegan banh mi, ratatouille) and a fine beef burger are popular; there’s even a nod to Brits, with bangers and mash and fish ‘n’ chips. Desserts are the least compelling component, but white nectarine gelato from Pazzo Gelato is a decent choice.
