THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mojitos Restaurant & Rum Bar Restaurant Review:
This successor to pan-Latin trailblazer Xiomara has not substantially changed the menu, and the room remains a handsome contemporary setting, now a tasteful study in mocha and chocolate. Large framed mirrors line the walls above high-backed banquettes and linen-topped tables. The bar continues to be a busy place, serving up what remains one of the very best mojitos in town, as bartenders use a sugar cane press like they do in Havana. They also stock nearly 50 rums from more than a dozen countries. Starters include unremarkable oxtail empanadas, tasty Cuban-style fresh corn tamales and memorable (albeit excessively spicy) duck ropa vieja. Among the entrées are Nicaraguan skirt steak, bistec de palomilla (thinly sliced sirloin with onions) and halibut with clams and Spanish chorizo sauce. The heavily promoted chocolate pudding soufflé may be a letdown, considerably less impressive than the homemade flan and tres leches cake.
