 Like its sister restaurants, this Mon Ami Gabi stresses fun and food, and plenty of hot bread and crispy fries besides. It’s an ideal stopping-off place for those craving big portions as well---how can you best the big crock of French onion soup, always a favorite, topped with a melted-cheese crust? While not officially a steakhouse, this restaurant does earn part of its reputation for its luscious steak frites in at least eleven variations---and for blue cheese fans, the Steak Roquefort is tops. For non-steak eaters, however, the kitchen complies by offering four other options, including roast chicken and a braised pork shank. Desserts are just as capacious, and include an over-the-top bananas Foster, dripping with melting ice cream and a caramel-rich sauce. Lighter meals might include one or two starters, such as the baked cheese with fingerling potatoes or the warm duck confit. The lunch menu focuses on sandwiches and burgers; for brunch, it’s full-throttle breakfast favorites with waffles and crêpes taking starring roles.
