THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mortimer's Restaurant Review:

Jon Mortimer, executive chef and past owner of B.B. Strands, has created one of Boise’s most high-end, elegant eateries. Housed in the basement of the historic Belgravia building, a smattering of windows give a glimpse of busy Main Street. While the menu offers the usual spread of Idaho regional entrées, from salmon to chops to duck, the combinations are first-rate. Start with the rich hazelnut-crusted Brie smothered in an apple and lingonberry chutney, followed by a house salad of tender field greens tossed with pickled cucumbers, accented by a Sparrow Lane Zinfandel vinaigrette and pistachios. Choose the herbal roasted pork tenderloin topped with caramelized onions and accompanied by angelica and lovage leaves for an inspired main course. For an even richer experience, indulge in the seven-course chef’s tasting menu. Mortimer's also offers over 550 hand-selected wines featuring Northwest and California varietals, so there's bound to be a vintage to enhance every meal. The only noticeable shortcoming here is the lack of a cohesive ambience. Presentation is simple and immaculate; the lighting is low and modern which wonderfully accents the cozy brick walls. However, the framed prints of common fruits and vegetables are staid.
